I was always fascinated by the mountains. It almost seemed impossible to trek to such high altitudes to witness those views. But, after this trip, I ve realized we can get anything we set our mind and heart to. Trek to tilicho is just not about the reaching to the lake, but the beautiful landscapes, the villages , the alpine forests, sub-tropical area, and the smiles of the local people adding magic to the journey. This trek can be a fresh air for those who are stuck in the mundanity of life.

Tilicho Lake Trek Experience and Memories
Day 1: Kathmandu to Besisahar
We took micro from Bus park to Besisahar at around 11 AM. It took us about 6 hrs to reach Besi Sahar. We stayed there overnight planning to continue the trip the next day.
Day 2: Besisahar – Manang
After having breakfast at besisahar, we took a jeep heading Manang district. On the way, the driver stopped at a village called ‘Chyamche’ and took us to a hotel for lunch. There was a view point where tourists could have food enjoying the amazing view. After having lunch over there, we headed off. The offroads, steep roads were extremely dangerous at some points. We could see beautiful waterfalls around. Then we stopped at Chame, a village in Manang distict for tea and some snacks. Most of the trekkers start their trek from Chame. But we decided to go further. Finally, we reached Manang at about 5 pm. It took us about 7 hrs to reach Manang village from Besisahar. Manang village is located at an altitude of 3519 meters.
Day 3: Manang – Shreekharka The next morning, we had our breakfast and then we started our trek at around 9 am. We had plans of reaching base camp on the same day. But for acclimatization, we shortened our hike that day. It took us about 2 hours to reach Khangsar village. Then we had our lunch there and headed off to Shreekharka. After 3 hours of hiking from Khangsar village, we then made it to lower Shreekharka.
Day 4: Shreekharka– Tilicho base camp On our 4th day, we woke up and were very ready to move forward. We headed towards the base camp. On the way, there comes a landslide area. The area is kind of risky as it is really windy there and pebbles start falling. Carefully we crossed the area and reached the base camp. It took us about 5 hours to reach there.
Day 5: Tilicho base camp – Tilicho Lake –Tilicho base camp The day we were all waiting for, but somewhat anxious about the trek. The way from the base camp to the lake was considered hard compared to the trek we had done to reach there. But with a positive mindset, we started our hike at 5:30 am. We walked slowly but steadily in our own pace. As we moved forward, the mountains were closer and wider. And as we looked upward, the path was more steeper. But with strong determination and encouragement from other trekkers, we went on. We finally reached the lake. The lake was frozen. It would have been much better to see it bluer than the bluest skies. But it was worth it. The mountains never fail to amaze me. The sky was clear, the atmosphere was just perfect. At that moment, I felt proud of myself, not only because I was born in a country with such beauty but also for having the courage to push myself to go there. We all were astonished, we took some pictures but those pictures could never justify the beauty what we had just witnessed. We only stayed there for about half an hour. The wind there goes worse as day goes by so it is preferred to return as early as possible. After reaching base camp, the super hungry us dived upon the food. The other trekkers were ready to head back as it was just 1 pm. But I just wanted to lay back and relax that day. So, me and my friend decided to stay there that day. We sat in the sun, with mountains right in front of us, with conversations and a hot cup of tea in our hands. The vision that I used to have on a mundane day in the home. I was living my dream.
Day 6: Tilicho base camp – Khangsar – Besisahar The next day, we woke up at around 5 am. With the beautiful memories in my heart and eyes, we headed back at around 6 am. Meeting strangers and hearing their stories, we reached Khangsar at about 11 am. We had lunch there and a jeep was standby, so we took the jeep and reached Besisahar at around 8 pm
Day 7: Besisahar – Kathmandu Our trip had finally ended. The next day we went back to Kathamandu in a micro bus.
